9:30 a.m. in-person and on Zoom. Joanna Foley will present a talk on "Rescuing the Revolutionary Black Patriots from the Shadows of History: An Accountability Project’. Joanna's ancestor, Major Joseph Winston--the namesake of Winston-Salem, North Carolina-- served as a militia leader in the American Revolution. A statue of him stands on federal land at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ten years later in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder, she came to have very different feelings about it and all other representations of enslavers in public places. Josh has been performing autobiographical monologues, on stages across the country and around the world, for over 30 years.
