The Greater Richmond Interfaith Program is a shelter that serves families transitioning from homelessness. Once a quarter Haley organizes a party to celebrate birthdays with children and parents at GRIP. We’d love for you to get involved.

GRIP is located at 165 – 22nd Street, Richmond, CA.

Sunday, March 17 – High schoolers will plan the GRIP Birthday party during youth group. We’ll meet from 11am to noon at in the chrysalis room UU Church of Berkeley.

Friday, March 22 – Middle & high schoolers will bake cupcakes for the kids at GRIP. We’ll eat pizza and play games while we bake. We’ll meet in the UUCB kitchen from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 23 – All ages are invited to help us host the Birthday Party at GRIP. Arrive around 5:00 p.m. We’ll set up games & decorations. Then during dinner we will play games, talk with the residents, sing happy birthday, and enjoy cake. Afterwards we’ll clean up and leave around 7:30 p.m.

Planning to go to the party? Email Haley to let her know what you’ll bring (cake, decorations, games, a craft activity, face painting skills, exc.). Ideas for making this party extra special are welcome too!

Our Purpose:  As UUs our second principle calls us to deepen our compassion by serving others and working for justice. By building relationships with the families at GRIP we explore the interdependent web where we can give each other a hand up to help out. UUCB teens feel that knowing about community resources for families in need (shelters, food banks) is important. Especially in the Bay Area where there are so many people are on the edge of homelessness. We also hope that by working together we’ll strengthen the connections within UUCB’s youth community, and that we’ll grow in personal and spiritual ways through meaningful service. Most significantly, we see that there is so much pain in our world. We hope that by bringing joy to children and caring for others we can be an antidote to the struggle and overwhelm so many of us face.
