Fannie Farmer, Unitarian “Domestic Scientist”

Fannie Farmer applied reason and science to cooking. She developed the standardized cups and spoons we use today. She made cooking easier for everyone by making recipes the same for anyone who could read them. We will make a snack and demonstrate how following the same directions scientifically gives results everyone can reach. Look for the Fannie Farmer Cookbook or an age-appropriate biography such as Fannie in the Kitchen.

Take Home: We used science and reason to cook with measuring cups and spoons. We learned about Fannie Farmer, Unitarian cookbook author and “domestic scientist” who introduced level measurements for recipes.
