UUCB is excited to welcome three Unitarian Universalist Poets to read their poetry selections that shine a light on how their work reflects their common faith.

Kathleen McClung (Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco)

Lee Rossi (Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Redwood City)

Deborah Bachels Schmidt (Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley)

ABOUT THE POETS:

Kathleen McClung’s new book, Questions of Buoyancy, launched in September from Longship Press. Her five previous collections include Temporary Kin and A Juror Must Fold in on Herself, winner of the 2020 Rattle Chapbook Prize. Her work appears widely in literary journals and anthologies. From 2021-23 she served as guest editor for The MacGuffin, a Michigan-based journal now celebrating its 40-year anniversary. Kathleen teaches at Skyline College in San Bruno, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in San Francisco, and privately. http://www.kathleenmcclung.com

Lee Rossi was born near the confluence of Greater Appalachia and the Deep South. During his lifetime the human population grew from 2 billion to 8 and CO2 levels rose from less than 300 ppm to over 400. He believes in the laws of physics. His religion is kindness.

Deborah Bachels Schmidt has self-published five chapbooks, with a sixth, Stumbling into Grace, published by Orchard Street Press. With Mary Eichbauer, Johanna Ely, and Laurie Hailey, she is co-author of Love’s Meditation (Random Lane Press). Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies and earned awards from the Poets’ Dinner, the Coolbrith Circle, the Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition, and Orchard Street Press

Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that this church occupies land in Huchiun in the unceded territory of the Chochenyo-speaking Ohlone people.  May we have the humility and courage to do our part to restore what has been broken and the wisdom to live into a new solidarity with Indigenous communities and the earth.
