Today, we will review our consensus definitions of a miracle, share a “miracle moment” we experienced this week, and learn about May Sarton, a writer of the 20th century. Her personal beliefs had much in common with Unitarian Universalism. We will discuss her phrase “look with absolute attention” and examine several beautiful objects (all surprises!) while doing so. We will also learn about the Fibonacci sequence, and how it appears in nature and art.

Take Home: Today, we discussed the revelatory power of close attention, and a mathematical concept called the Fibonacci sequence. Extend these topics in one of several ways: acquire a head of broccoli, and observe how it splits into a certain number of florets each time you separate it, according to the Fibonacci sequence. Or practice close attention, and watch the sunrise and sunset, discussing how time either speeds or slows when the sun crosses the horizon. Attempt an observational drawing of a plant or natural phenomenon, and discuss how you feel during the process. Is it challenging or rewarding, difficult or easy?
