On December 13, 2025 at 2pm pacific, please come to the in-person Death Café meeting in UUCB’s Safir Room–sponsored by three members of this church’s Applied UU Buddhist Sangha. This is an ongoing quarterly event here. All are welcome! See more information below.
What is a Death Café?
At Death Café meetings, people “drink tea, eat cake, and talk about death.” Death Café is a recent movement that sponsors discussions in which death is the main topic. The purpose of the “Death Café” movement is to help us come to grips with one of the most taboo subjects in our culture: death. These are NOT support groups or counselling sessions, and there are no pre-set objectives, agendas or themes. There is no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action. The discussion goes wherever the people who turned up for it take it.
Why would anyone come to a Death Café?
In the safe spaces of Death Café meetings we can let our hair down, relax, and share. Those who have already dealt with the “hard stop” at the end of the lives of loved ones have a chance to share experiences, and those who haven’t can explore their own ideas and concerns.
