Dear Ones, the Social Justice Council is conducting a fundraiser from July 29 through August 14.  It’s our annual “Congrats to Grads” program to support our UUCB Youth who have graduated high school and are going onto their next adventures.

In 2023, we didn’t have any high school graduates; but this year, 2024, we are congratulating graduates: Ricardo Alvarez, son of UUCB member, Maria Alvarez (proud Dad, Ricardo, Sr).  And also Miles O’Riva, son of our Executive Director, Tess Snook O’Riva (proud Dad, Brian).

These outstanding young men have enriched our Unitarian Universalist community with their dedication and spirit. Ricardo has participated in Religious Education for many years and supported the young ones as he grew older.  Miles, has supported so much activity at UUCB–coming in on his days off of school and weekends to help with UUCB needs.

As they step into this new chapter, we can support their dreams by financially contributing towards the expenses of their next adventures.  Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. These young folks will need books, apps, computers, backpacks, pizza [and yes, tattoos–although one of our former graduates took me up on that and I got in trouble].

Please know that congratulating, honoring and supporting our graduates doesn’t have to only be financial.  A card with your send-off thoughts sent to the church, or an email wishing them the best, would be wonderful.  Email me (membership@uucb.org) and I’ll forward your email to the graduates.

But if you are able to financially donate a little something, click the Donation button above. It’s the same Donation button that is used in church services or for our pledges and other programs. In the list of funds that will come up, change from General Fund to SOCIAL JUSTICE COUNCIL and put into the Comment Box: “For Congrats to Grads.”

Also, if you wish to mail in a check, make it out to UUCB.  Put in the Memo line, Congrats to Grads 2024. Mail to UUCB, 1 Lawson Road, Kensington, CA 94707.
Same church address if you wish to send a card of congrats or encouragement to Ricardo and Miles.

But let’s send these guys off knowing they have a community that is at their back and they are never alone.
Love,
Lonnie (Moseley)

P.S., The SJC will have a brief ceremony for Ricardo and Miles on Wednesday evening, August 14, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom (link to come).  If you can join Zoom for the first thirty minutes of the SJC Meeting, please do, and meet the guys and their parents on Zoom.  If you can’t make it, send your energy for our young people who will be reshaping this world.
