Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger is a longtime West Bank settler who set out to correct the lie that there are unreconcilable differences between Israelis and Palestinians. After he got to know his Palestinian neighbors, he recognized their shared humanity and founded Roots-A Local Palestinian-Israeli Initiative for Understanding, Non-Violence and Transformation.

Aziz, whose brother died from beatings in an Israeli military prison, sent a letter of condolence to Maoz, whose parents died in the Hamas assault. Their improbable friendship blossomed into a journey of reconciliation chronicled in their recent co-authored book, The Future is Peace: A Shared Journey Across the Holy Land.
