Ministerial Intern Liesl Dees

As we begin our series on Reclaiming and Reimagining Religion, we start with the wisdom of our bodies. On this Pentecost Sunday, we’ll riff on the New Testament story of embodied spirituality through a jazz lens, featuring special guest trumpeter Delbert Anderson.

Ministerial Intern Liesl Dees welcomes her friend Delbert Anderson, an acclaimed Diné jazz trumpeter, as a special guest musician. In the service, we’ll explore the ways we embody spirit through a jazz lens. Anderson’s music blends improvisation, jazz, and Navajo musical traditions with themes of beauty, balance and harmony. Featured in both the New York Times and Jazz Times, Anderson has gained recognition as a “community-minded Indigenous individualist.” His current piece, “The Long Walk,” is a multi-year performance in the style of John Cage that calls attention to Diné forced relocation in the 1860s.
