Religious Education
We currently offer three age-group RE classes:
- K-2nd Grade
- 3th-5th Grade
- Middle School
Religious Education classes happen during service. Children start in the sanctuary at 11 a.m. and then leave the service as a group after Storytime. RE classes generally last for about an hour and then children gather on the playground for all-ages fun. RE classes feature hands-on activities designed to help children explore UU values and build community with each other.
Instead of RE, we sometimes offer a special Celebration Chapel in the Fireside Room. Celebration Chapel is a youth-centered, all-ages service that includes music led by the children’s choir director and youth-focused spiritual teachings and experiences. Each Celebration Chapel has a different theme based on UU values.
Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a hallmark of UU religious education across the country.Led by specially trained teachers, these OWL classes help children begin the lifelong process of learning about identity, relationships, safety and health. This national curriculum was revised in 2024 to offer new, expansive ways of engaging with issues such as gender identity and roles, sexual orientation, race, and ability. Over the past two years, we have offered OWL for Grades K-1 and Grades 4-5.
We are currently offering a Coming of Age (COA) program for our tweens and teens aged 12-14. Coming of Age is designed especially for 8th and 9th graders to explore Unitarian Universalism. Because UUs don’t have a creed or a dogma—there is no one set thing that all UUs believe–each of us is responsible for deciding for ourselves what we think are the best answers for life’s biggest questions.Rather than unquestioningly accepting the beliefs of family and friends, students explore their own story and faith to write a credo, a statement of beliefs. This class ends with the students creating and leading their own Sunday service.

The well-being of young people is important to us. All of our volunteers undergo background checks and receive training.
