Parenting is a profoundly rewarding and often times grueling spiritual practice. We have support and discussion groups for parents, plus workshops on issues like discipline, talking with kids about sex and drugs, and cultivating spiritual practices as a parent. We know that being a family can be hard work, and that it is easier, more rewarding, and more meaningful in community.
Parents’ Discussion Group meets at 9:30am on the first and third Sunday morning of every month in the Safir Room.
Discussion Circle for Caregivers of Aging Parents offers a supportive place to explore the challenges and emotions of caring for parents as they age. Through readings, reflection, and deep sharing, the group explores grief and loss, complex emotions and changing roles, self-care and boundaries, and community support. The group meets at 9:30 in the Safir Room on the second and fourth Sunday of the month.
Parents’ Night Out provides an evening of free childcare once a month from September through May on third Saturdays. PNO starts in the Fireside Room (just off the Social Hall) at 4:30pm. Childcare workers collect the children while parents stay in the Fireside Room for a short discussion about UU values with other parents before dispersing to enjoy their own activities. Kids have time on the playground (if it’s not too muddy), eat dinner together, do arts and crafts and play games in the Social Hall, and watch a UU-values appropriate movie.
