Youth Activities
We are deeply committed to creating safe places for the whole person to grow; this is especially true for our youth. Our classes and activities are both fun and engaging while also being purposeful. Youth have access to our Coming of Age classes and Our Whole Lives sexuality curriculum, in addition to weekly youth group conversations dealing with everything from the meaning of life, to environmental stewardship, social justice and how to be kind to your family. We are grateful to have an excellent team of advisers, committed to the youth and our UUCB community.
You can learn more about what happens in each session by exploring our calendar of events or at the activities for families page.
Youth Groups: Middle & High School
Both youth groups build community with a focus on spiritual and identity exploration through deep sharing and witness, playing games, and other fun activities. Youth meet with adult advisors to reflect on the month’s worship theme, as well as life’s gifts and challenges. They begin each Sunday after the Time for All Ages part of the 11:00 worship service.
Visitors are always welcome; look here for more info about planning your visit.
MUUGS
MUUGs is the acronym for Middle School Unitarian Universalist Gatherings, a program which serves youth in 6th-9th grade. It is a program of the Pacific Central District of the Unitarian Universalist Association (PCD-UUA), an association of multiple congregations in Northern Califoria, Northern Nevada and Hawaii. As such, MUUGs brings together youth from many different congregations in the district for weekend events to building a safe and affirming community and deepen Unitarian Universalist values.
Youth-Adult Team
Exciting things are happening in youth ministry at UUCB. We are forming a youth-adult leadership team. Composed of youth reps from middle and high school, plus advisors and a parent, this emerging group will:
• Guide our programs for middle & high schoolers
• Give voice to youth in the wider church & community
• Grow leadership with a focus on faith formation
• Practice healthy intergenerational cooperation
The well being of young people is important to us. All of our volunteers undergo background checks and training. The church Safety Policy can be reviewed here:
