Music Matters, October 2017

A celebration of song in two afternoons full of beautiful and expressive voices. On October 15 at 1 pm, join us for “New Voices,” a collection of songs of this century, from Sara Bareilles to Craig Carnelia. This program features Dayana Claghorn, Bridget Eding, Corinne Eding, Michèle Voillequé, and Mark Walstrom.

A week later, on October 22, again at 1 pm, it’s “Classic Beauty” with art songs by great composers of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The singers are Meghan Dibble, Marcelle Dronkers, Richard Fey, Katie Lipka, Rod Lowe, and Barry Zuckerman.  There is no charge for either concert.

In services in October, you will hear a great variety of music. Among the selections is “Give us Hope” by Jim Papoulis, director of the vibrant New York Children’s Chorus and a composer and arranger who has worked with Tony Bennett, Patti Labelle, Vangelis, and Christina Aguilera. “Like a Mighty Stream” is a gospel-like collaboration between John Jacobsen, a choreographer and composer for Disney, and Moses Hogan, one of the great voices in spirituals and the choral world in general. “Al Shlosha D’Varim” is a lyrical setting by Allan Naplan of a Hebrew maxim, that translates roughly as “the world is sustained by three things: by truth, by justice and by peace.”

Yours in harmony,

Bryan
