Many of us are taught ways to listen. We may be trained to listen attentively, reflectively, or empathically. Many of us have places in our lives where we listen to the voice of the intellect, and if we’re lucky, to the voices of feelings. But it’s much rarer in our culture to have spaces where we welcome to soul to show up and speak. The Quaker teacher Parker Palmer suggests the soul is shy, like a wild animal. What wild whispers hide in the quiet corners of our beings? How do we make space to hear them in a world of constant light and noise?
