1:00 p.m. on Zoom – Join UUCB’s Literature, Film, Drama and Music Contingent (LFDMC) meeting to listen to, share thoughts on, or hear new revelations as UUCB member, Cordell Sloan, guides the discussion of the book, “Algorithms of Racism: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism”.
Author, UCLA professor Safiya Umoja Noble, gives a revealing look at how negative biases against women of color are embedded in search engine results and algorithms. Dr. Noble challenges the idea that search engines like Google offer an equal playing field for all forms of ideas, identities, and activities.
This will be an engaging discussion on racism, sexism, private interests and monopolies–not a technical talk. Everyone is welcome. Invite your friends. If you don’t have time to read the book, below are some links to the discussion about the revelations in the book.
