Creative Fundraising

What will you auction off this year?  Those great parties and other activities we auction off are the heart of our community social life and an important source of income. Hosting an event is a great way to support the church. Team up with a friend to divide the work and double the fun. Here are a few ideas:

Dining for Dollars… a cooking or craft class …a wine tasting…a meal or dish delivered once a month…produce from your garden…a pool party or BBQ…a sample of something you’re good at: massage, organizing, personal training, graphic design, gardening…lead a tour in a museum or a hike….

So be creative and support the church by offering a fun event. Please email the details of your event to Jane Lundin. We need your name and contact info plus a short and enticing description of what you’re offering. Don’t forget to include the date, the minimum price and the number of guests you can handle.

Bidding Starts Sept. 1 – On Line!

This year the array of tempting dinners, useful services, and lively social events will be listed on our new auction website. Starting Sept. 1, you’ll be able to register as a bidder, read the catalog, place bids – and pay by credit card if you win! Jane Lundin and Ellen Fisher will be in the Atrium before and after church on September 13 and September 20 to help explain how it works. ”We’ll even take a paper bid if you’re totally allergic to computers, but we hope lots of bids will have come in before then.” Let’s keep the Fun in Fundraising!

My Broker Donates – Does yours?

Have you heard those ads on NPR? My Broker Donates is a registry service that will match you up with a real estate agent who has agreed to donate a portion of their commission to an organization of your choice. For a $500k home, that donation is about $2000. If you plan to buy or sell property this year, we’d love it if you would consider naming UUCB as your organization of choice. And if you’re a broker who would be willing to make a similar donation as a kind of finder’s fee for a contact made through UUCB (It happens all the time!), please let us know. Maybe we can publish a list of participating brokers. Email beacon (at) uucb.org

Oct. 10 – El Cerrito Citywide Garage Sale! Carolyn Margrete, who lives on a busy and visible street, has again offered to host this on behalf of UUCB. We made about $2000 on this a few years ago, so save your items!

We also need willing workers for this 1-day event! Help us price and set out items, take money, and take left over items to Goodwill. Carolyn’s space is limited, so a nearby garage or other storage space for a few days ahead of the event would be helpful as well. Contact pianomargrete@gmail.com.
