Charge to Search Committee

On Sunday, May 3, the UUCB Congregation commissioned its new search team during the worship service.

The congregation affirmed its trust in the Ministerial Search Committee and pledged to cooperate with them and support them in their work.

After the words below were spoken, the members of the search team pledged to commit themselves to this essential work with their colleagues on the committee and for their church.

“Search Committee members, you now begin a journey of getting to know one another’s hopes and dreams for this church, one another’s styles of communication, and one another’s ways of working with others.  The first leg of your journey is self-awareness. And it will be essential for you to find ways to work well with one another, however different your styles or perspectives may be.  In the months to come, you will be helping this congregation to understand itself better and what it wants and needs in its next ministerial leader. You may even have to learn some new skills. You will have the fascinating experience of learning about and communicating with a number of ministers who are in search for a new congregation to serve. And you will be eventually making a most important decision when you choose a candidate, or possibly decide not to bring forward a candidate from among the ministers in search, based on your best discernment about both those ministers and the congregation.”
