CCISCO Update

Through the summer, many members of the congregation are continuing their activities with CCISCO (Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization). We would love to have you join us for any of these activities, at which we are both making progress and having fun.

We continue to participate in “Ceasefire” walks through Richmond neighborhoods on Friday evenings. We start at a local church and engage local residents with a message of “alive and free.” UUCB members have been a strong presence at these walks.

Also, work continues as we try to ensure that the proposed UCB/LBNL Richmond Bay campus will benefit local communities in terms of job and business opportunities, educational programs, and housing remedies for probable displacement of residents. In July, we met with UCB’s Vice Chancellor for Real Estate and his staff to express our concerns. It was a productive meeting, but the work continues – this will be a 40-year project.

Meanwhile, your UUCB CCISCO team has been holding a series of meetings to explore future projects as we head into a new church year with our interim minister. Primarily, we want to ensure that as many congregation members as possible have an opportunity to participate in CCISCO activities. For example, we are working with Merrin Clough on ways that we might work together with the R.E. community on social justice issues.
