The Uses of Memory

In a time of widespread anxiety and amnesia, it may be wise to recall that both individual and collective recollections of a painful past can be both healing and encouraging.

Rev. John Buehrens served as president of our denomination from 1993 to 2001 and is the author or co-author of nine books on liberal  religion, most recently A Religious Center with a Civic Circumference: Unitarians in San Francisco Since 1850. He lives in that city with his wife of 53 years, Rev. Gwen Langdoc Buehrens, a pioneer among ordained women  in the Episcopal Church
