Dr. Martin Luther King Walk 2025
On the chilly morning of January 20, 2025, Members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley gathered at the El Cerrito City Hall to march to El Cerrito High School to celebrate the life and prophetic work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Rev. Marcus Liefert, UUCB minister and many UUCB members and families walked the avenues alongside other faith groups, community organizations, and citizens to the joyful music of the Richmond High School marching band, one of UUCB’s Good Neighbor organizations last year.
We were greeted by gleeful horns and the rolled down windows of cheering drivers as we stopped traffic for road crossings. Along the streets, families gathered in their front yards to cheer us on (and sell us lemonade). It was a joyful day focused on community, love, and the theme Mission Possible.
The mayor of El Cerrito wore a T-shirt that read, “Dear Ancestors, I understand the assignment.”
