Bound Together

Religion has its root in the Latin verb religare, “to bind together.” We find ourselves bound together in families, in work, in neighborhoods, in societies. Sometimes there are so many ties binding us that the interdependent web can feel more like a trap than a blessing. Perhaps honoring our connectedness while still pursuing the joy of freedom could be a remedy for living in a society as anxious as ours.
