Okay, So Now What?
Now That We Have a Future …
Thanks to the splendid work of the Capital Campaign folks and the generous support of members and friends, we have started on the path to ensure that UUCB will continue to offer a beautiful and safe physical home for our congregation for years to come.
So now we know we have a future. But …
- What does that future look like?
- Why is it important that UUCB exist?
- What difference do we want to make in the world?
One advantage of policy governance is that it forces us to ask those questions. That’s what the Board did over the summer with the Café Conversations and one-on-one meetings.
From that research, we developed what policy governance calls “Ends,” or outcomes. Ends are frequently rewritten, so they’re not final in that sense. Rather, they are what we think of when we talk about the “means to an end.” Once the Board adopts the new Ends, the Coordinating Team will explore with you how we as a congregation make progress towards these Ends.
The draft Ends below are the result of intensive work by the Board, in collaboration with the Coordinating Team. We now offer them to you for comment before the Board votes on whether to adopt them. To what degree do they align with your values? Are they the right ones? Have we forgotten something?
What you can do:
Make your mark on the Alignment Chart in the Atrium. There will also be a place for you to call out things about the draft that you especially like … or don’t like.
Keep in mind:
The Ends are not meant to be poetry (although we think these are pretty good), and you won’t find details in them. Ends are broad statements of intention and values. The details about how we will achieve these Ends—the “means”—will be developed over the next few months.
