Love Surrounds Us Without Boundaries

Families are the most important part of our Beloved Community, but not all families come in the same size and shape. Today we will explore what it means to be a family in all the wonderfully varied ways that families exist. Continuing our focus on the second UU principle, we will explore what it means that all people should be treated fairly through looking at ways that some families are accepted in society and some families are not. Through creative engagement we will explore ways that some families are marginalized and how this can be harmful, understanding that diversity should and can be celebrated.

Take Home

Continue exploring the idea of family and beloved community by engaging each other in what family means. How has your idea of family grown and expanded over the years and why?

Create a family tree – talk about the ways that your family has grown, including friends and non blood relatives. Discuss how family can look many different ways and how you each have seen this in your own life.

Connect the idea of Beloved Community with the concept of families. Explore and find proverbs, quotes, poems, and songs about family and love.
