On October 15, 2016, a Start-Up Workshop (for starting up with new ministers) was led at UUCB by our UUA Congregational Life staff member, Jonipher Kwong. There were 64 participants in the morning. We created a timeline of our history and then split into groups to identify “sacred cow” traditions, unwritten rules, stories that are alive for us, and truths that are often not spoken. Next we listed our church’s strengths and challenges/opportunities. Small groups then worked on generating some key goals we would like our new ministers to help the congregation work toward, and by everyone voting with sticky dots we identified the following:
• Community building—strengthern reltaionships in and outside, all ages
• Leadership development
• Encourage greater diversity
• Clarify how we “do church”—how decisions are made
• Lifespan faith development/opportunities for spiritual deepening

In the afternoon, members of the Board, Coordinating Team and Program Council met and did some RACI analysis (who is responsible, who is accountable, who needs to be consulted and who informed).
