We are deeply committed to creating safe places for the whole person to grow; this is especially true for our youth. Our classes and activities are both fun and engaging while also being purposeful. Youth have access to our Coming of Age classes and Our Whole Lives sexuality curriculum, in addition to weekly youth group conversations dealing with everything from the meaning of life, to environmental stewardship, social justice and how to be kind to your family. We are grateful to have an excellent team of advisers, committed to the youth and our UUCB community.
You can learn more about what happens in each session by exploring our calendar of events or at the activities for families page.
Youth Groups: Middle & High School
Both youth groups build community with a focus on spiritual and identity exploration through deep sharing and witness, playing games, and other fun activities. Youth meet with adult advisors to reflect on the month’s worship theme, as well as life’s gifts and challenges. Currently the youth groups are on summer break. Weekly Sunday 11:00 a.m. gatherings will resume on August 21.
Visitors are always welcome; look here for more info about planning your visit.
Exciting things are happening in youth ministry at UUCB. We are forming a youth-adult leadership team. Composed of youth reps from middle and high school, plus advisors and a parent, this emerging group will:
• Guide our programs for middle & high schoolers
• Give voice to youth in the wider church & community
• Grow leadership with a focus on faith formation
• Practice healthy intergenerational cooperation
Coming of Age: 8th-10th Grades
This program is a special rite of passage for Unitarian Universalist teenagers in 8th through 10th grades. At this age, youth are in one of the most formative and pivotal times of their lives. As UUs we believe that each and every one of us has a piece of the truth. During this intentional and intensive year youth explore and articulate the beliefs they hold most dear as they begin to craft the kind of person they want to be.
The next Coming of Age class will begin in fall of 2016. Youth meet most weeks, September through early June, from 12:45 to 2:00 p.m. Curious to learn more? Youth and parents are invited to an orientation on Sunday, August 28 at 12:30 p.m. Sign up here.
The well being of young people is important to us. All of our volunteers undergo background checks and training. Lean more about our safety policies here.
