When we visit the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley, above our heads, powering everything that happens in the building, is a 50 kilowatt array of 336 solar panels producing 70 megawatt hours of electricity per year.

Financed through the generosity of our congregation’s members and friends and through a state rebate program with PG&E, the panels were installed in 2008, and were blessed in a community ritual celebrating possibilities for a cleaner energy future and our commitment to greening our planet on May 28, 2008.

You can see how well the PV array is working right here! The web monitoring system shown below collects data from the solar inverters on an hourly basis and that information is posted on the Sunny Portal web site.
